I was excited about these new ATM machines. Too bad that only lasted a few minutes. Now i dread using these awful machines to make a deposit. It never fails. I almost always end up with a check or bill that is rejected by the machine, forcing me to go inside and deal a person anyways.

This defeats the whole purpose. I wish they'd go back to the old machines, at least those worked. I'm all for technology and new things, as long as it WORKS. Maybe they could learn a thing or two from BofA's ATM machines...

@Craig I haven't experienced that yet but you raise a really good point. As it stands, it seems the new system can either be really convenient or really inconvenient. The ATM doesn't offer much in the middle ground. Let's hope Chase is hearing this feedback and puts an automated backup system in place.

They are great unless you are depositing cash. The last 3 deposits Ive done at least one bill, regardless of the "shape" it is in, is rejected. Leaving me to have to go inside, stand in line and deposit that bill. It would be nice if the envelope was still an alternative at the ATM. Otherwise deposit friendly banking becomes deposit unfriendly banking

Hey Larry. While I fully agree that multitasking is often the enemy of thought (you should see how many Firefox tabs I have open at any given time - it's disgusting), what I'm talking about here has less to do with user multitasking and more to do with the phone's multitasking capabilities.

The apps I outline all require that the phone allow them to run in the background. It has very little to do with the user. It'd be silly to have to carry around a laptop in order to use them - it defeats the purpose;)

Plus, you have to admit, it's a little frustrating to lose your place when you're playing a game of poker on your iPhone because you decided to check an email or a text message.

For the sake of innovation and freedom, I hope you're right about Apple including multitasking in 4.0. While the omission of multitasking from the iPad makes the inclusion in the iPhone's OS seem less likely, Apple sure does love throwing in a last minute surprise.

Oh Joe - multitasking can be seen as an enemy of thought. I do believe it is important, but really not that big of a deal on a cell phone. If you are using something that requires multi-tasking - go to your laptop.

Saying that, I believe Ipod 4.0 will have multitasking capabilities....

Thanks for the tip on Whrrl. I'll have to check it out on my iPod Touch - I use a Motorola Droid there is no Android Whrrl app yet (they'd better get on that!).

I saw the Cashmore interview and I love where location-based services are going. Oh and Cashmore is uber hot so I could watch him talk about anything, lol.

Don't forget to check out Whrrl 3.0. It's going to give foursquare a run for its badges. There's different societies and levels based upon participation...and you get points on Whrrl when people take you up on your suggestions. It's like foursquare 2.0.

Also, SXSW has an interview with Mr. Cashmore himself about the future of geo-tagging, location-based apps.

As you may know I work in higher ed. It's my mission to educate administrators and faculty on how to incorporate social media platforms into the learning experience.

My thoughts re: Spotmesage, which you brought to my attention!
- Faculty send text deadlines re: major projects once students hit the library
- Administrators remind students of financial aid deadlines
- The student center texts last minute discounts once people arrive outside the performing arts venues.

This new technology seems great, until it wont scan your check and you are forced to go into the branch to deposit it. This has happened with about 1/2 the checks I've tried to deposit over the last few weeks.
Chase's attempt to save $0.40 per deposit winds up costing you several times that amount in time waiting in line at the branch. I hope the get it right soon.

Its funny you should mention this Joe. Currently, there is a box of CD cases being stored for me at my parents house. I was bold enough back in college to get those giant black binder books that stored all my CD's (in alphabetical order 0f-course). I know I don't need those cases... But now... Out of site out of mind. My mom keeps asking me if she can throw it out, and I keep saying "let me come home and take a look at them before you toss them". This is a stalling method. I just can't let go of them just yet! And about my actual CD's. I love the collection. I love staring at the CD's themselves. They're so shiny, and round... and I'm laughing as I write this, but I just love to see how many I've collected in the years. (now that I'm reading this comment over, it might be time to start downloading to Itunes).

Oh the clutter! I get so mad at game systems that just sit and collect dust. I sometimes say "I"m going to sell that on e-bay" but time passes and I get bothered by the process. I have to take a picture of it, I have to put it on e-bay, I have to watch the bids, and then I have to ship it! Sometimes the thought of all that just overwhelms me. All the time spent on worrying about getting rid of the system causes the system to stay on the dusty shelf. Any suggestions?
